Description:
(S)-5-Hydroxypiperidin-2-one is a chiral compound that is used in the synthesis of tofacitinib. It can be obtained by nitroaldol reaction of L-tyrosine with dimethylzinc, which yields the racemic mixture of (R)- and (S)-isomers. The stereoselective synthesis of (S) 5-hydroxypiperidin-2-one also requires the use of chiral reagents such as enantioselective catalysts or diastereoselective reagents. This compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in an animal model.
