The hydrophobic nature of 4-benzoyloxy-tempo allows it to penetrate into cells by passive diffusion, and its lipophilic properties make it resistant to degradation by plasma esterases. 4-Benzoyloxy-tempo has also been shown to inhibit cholesterol synthesis, which may lead to decreased cholesterol levels in the blood.
