Product Information
- 1,4-Benzenedicarboxylic Acid, 2-Hydroxy-
- 2-Hydroxyterephthalic acid
2-Hydroxyterephthalic Acid is a reactive chemical that can be used as an oxidation catalyst. It is also used in the synthesis of 2-aminoterephthalic acid, which is a building block for pharmaceuticals. The redox potential of 2-hydroxyterephthalic acid can be increased by adding copper chloride to the reaction solution. The redox cycle of 2-hydroxyterephthalic acid involves the transfer of electrons from one molecule to another, with the release of energy in the form of heat and light, when it reacts with copper chloride. This reaction mechanism requires three steps: (1) copper ions are reduced to copper metal by adding hydrogen gas; (2) electrons are transferred to an oxidizing agent such as oxygen or nitric oxide; and (3) electrons are then transferred back to the copper metal, generating heat and light.
