Product Information
- 2-Hydroxyethyl 4-Hydroxybenzoate
4-Hydroxybenzoic acid 2-hydroxyethyl ester is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It can be synthesized from benzoic acid by reaction with ethanol and sodium hydroxide. The product of this reaction is a mixture of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid 2-hydroxyethyl ester, benzoic acid, and equimolar amounts of 2-hydroxyethanol and ethyl alcohol. The hydrolysis of the ester group in 4-hydroxybenzoic acid 2-hydroxyethyl ester produces benzoic acid and ethyl alcohol. The alkylation reaction of the anion in 4-hydroxybenzoic acid 2-hydroxyethyl ester with deuterated benzene yields quantitatively benzaldehyde deuterated at one position on the benzene ring. This compound may also be used as a marker for hydrogen atoms that have been substituted with deuter
