Product Information
- 2-(4-Cyanophenyl)ethanol
- 4-Cyano phenylethanol
4-(2-Hydroxyethyl)benzonitrile is an organic compound that is used in research and the preparation of oligonucleotides. It can be extracted from the leaves of the plant Perfoliatum polygonoides or synthesized by reacting ethanol with 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene. 4-(2-Hydroxyethyl)benzonitrile is a mutagenic substance and has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice. The compound binds to nucleoside phosphoramidites, which are building blocks for DNA synthesis, and prevents their incorporation into DNA molecules. This process can be carried out by pretreating the nucleosides with 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)benzonitrile in a hydrochloric acid solution followed by chromatographic purification.
