3-Hydroxycoumarin is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. It is a coumarin derivative that can be synthesized in vitro by the oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenol with hydrogen peroxide. 3-Hydroxycoumarin has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins, which are molecules that are involved in the inflammatory response. 3-Hydroxycoumarin has also been found to protect against skin cancer induced by UV radiation and it's possible that this protection may be due to its ability to react with free radicals produced during UV irradiation. The reaction solution of 3-hydroxycoumarin shows hydrogen bonding interactions with other molecules and conformational properties when bound to human serum proteins. This conformational change causes changes in the fluorescence probe's optical sensor and mitochondrial membrane potential.
