4'-Hydroxyflavonol is a flavonoid that has been shown to inhibit influenza virus neuraminidase, an enzyme that facilitates the release of new viruses from infected cells. It also inhibits viral neuraminidase activity in vitro and in vivo. 4'-Hydroxyflavonol has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of influenza virus replication in human lung epithelial cells, with an IC50 value of 2.5 μM. This flavonoid has shown anti-influenza drug activity against both influenza A and B viruses. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy against influenza, with no adverse effects observed at doses up to 200mg/kg body weight. The mechanism for the inhibition of viral neuraminidase by this compound is not yet known but may involve hydroxyl groups or kinase signaling pathways.
