4'-Hydroxyflavanone is a naturally-occurring compound that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of hepatic steatosis. It inhibits lipid synthesis by inhibiting the enzymes 4-hydroxylase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase, which are responsible for fatty acid and acetate synthesis, respectively. The drug also prevents the formation of lipids by inhibiting NADPH cytochrome P450 reductase. However, 4'-Hydroxyflavanone does not inhibit sterol biosynthesis or cholesterol absorption. The compound has been shown to be safe for use in humans as it does not have any drug interactions or toxic effects on the liver. Moreover, 4'-Hydroxyflavanone is not metabolized by bacteria or yeast and does not affect their growth rates.
