Description

N-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)maleimide is a compound that can be used as an activator for free radical polymerization. It has been shown to copolymerize with styrene and methyl methacrylate to form polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate). The reaction time of the polymerization process is controlled by the concentration of the activator, the temperature, and the amount of water in the mixture. The analytical methods for determining N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)maleimide include gel permeation chromatography (GPC), acid catalyst, hydroxyl group, and temperatures. This compound absorbs water from its surrounding environment. It reacts with aluminum oxide at high temperatures to form hydrogen gas.
