Hederasaponin B is a triterpenoid saponin found in Chinese herbs, such as Radix Astragali. The compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-leishmanial activities in vitro and in vivo. Hederasaponin B also has neuroprotective properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and nitric oxide (NO).
Hederasaponin B has low bioavailability and must be administered orally for maximum effect.
