Homoplantaginin is a bioactive phenolic compound that has been shown to have a number of biological properties in vitro and in vivo. Homoplantaginin has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of ATP-binding cassette transporter (ABC) proteins, which are involved in the transport of lipids and other molecules across cell membranes. It was also found to have anti-inflammatory effects on fat cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of inflammatory enzymes such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). The pharmacokinetic properties of this drug have also been studied using Hl-60 cells as a model for human neutrophils. This drug has been shown to reduce the severity of autoimmune diseases by binding with high affinity and specificity to fetal bovine serum albumin (FBS). Homoplantaginin can bind to cervical cancer cells through hydrogen bonding. This drug also binds well with liver cells and inhibits the growth of infectious bacteria
