Description:Hederacolchiside A1 is a natural product that has been shown to have apoptotic properties. It induces apoptosis by altering the mitochondrial membrane potential and activating caspase-3, which are both critical steps in the apoptosis pathway. Hederacolchiside A1 was shown to significantly induce cytotoxicity in HL-60 cells with an IC50 of 2.6 μg/ml and to induce cell death in human monoclonal antibody-producing cells (mcf-7) with a median lethal dose of 4 μM. The chemical structure of hederacolchiside A1 is similar to that of cisplatin, which is associated with nephrotoxicity in women treated for cancer. This study showed that hederacolchiside A1 had no significant toxicity on mcf-7 cells, indicating it may be a safer alternative to cisplatin when treating women with cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity
