Product Information

Name:
7-Hydroxy-1-indanone
Synonyms:
  • 7-Hydroxyindan-1-one
  • 7-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one
Description:

7-Hydroxy-1-indanone is a photophysical molecule that has been synthesized by the intramolecular hydrogenation of an indane. The hydroxyl group of 7-hydroxy-1-indanone is reactive, and can react with chloride to form chlorohydroindanones. It emits light in the ultraviolet region when the tautomeric equilibrium is shifted towards the protonated form. This reaction product has been shown to have a high absorbance at 260 nm and 270 nm, which makes it useful for analytical purposes. 7-hydroxy-1-indanone also reacts with fatty acids at an intramolecular level, which leads to the formation of hydroxy fatty acid esters.
