Description:
5-Hydroxypiperidin-2-one is a hydrophilic compound. It can be synthesised by reductive amination of an imine and a nucleophile, with the help of a catalyst. 5-Hydroxypiperidin-2-one is used to prepare macrocycles, which are low molecular weight compounds. This chemical has been shown to have noninvasive properties when it binds to DNA and inhibits the synthesis of proteins in cells. The yields for this compound are high because it can be synthesised using catalytic asymmetric methods. 5-Hydroxypiperidin-2-one is homologous to piperidine, which is also a hydrophilic compound that can be found in many natural products.
