Heptafluorobutyronitrile is a colorless, odorless, and non-flammable gas. It is soluble in organic solvents. In the cavity of a functional theory, it has been shown to be able to liquefy due to its high vapor pressure. Heptafluorobutyronitrile can react with oxygen at room temperature and produce carbon dioxide. The reaction rate depends on the concentration of the reactants and the radially (distance from the center). Heptafluorobutyronitrile can be used as an absorber for liquid reagents in chemical reactions or as a reaction rate accelerator for polymerization reactions. It also acts as a ligand that is capable of binding to polyols. This gas can also be used as an oxidation catalyst copolymerization reactions such as vinyl acetate with styrene monomer.
