The molecular geometry of this compound is related to the intramolecular hydrogen bond that forms between the nitrogen atoms in its amide group and the oxygen atoms in malonic acid. Isonicotinamide has also been shown to have antimicrobial properties, which are likely due to its ability to chelate metal ions.
