Isatin is a natural compound that can be found in the bark of the Cinchona tree. It has inhibitory properties against the enzyme polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. Isatin also has an effect on 5-HT concentrations, which may be due to its ability to inhibit platelet aggregation and induce vasoconstriction. Isatin has been shown to have anticancer effects in vitro, and also inhibits cellular transformation by reducing DNA synthesis.
