Description:
2-(Isothiocyanatomethyl)furan is a hydroxy group that contains an active methylene group. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cells in ovary tissue by binding to polycarboxylic acid, which inhibits enzyme activity and cell function. 2-(Isothiocyanatomethyl)furan is a reversible covalent molecule that can react with nucleophilic functional groups such as hydroxyl, amino, and thiol groups. This makes it useful for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as asthma and arthritis. 2-(Isothiocyanatomethyl)furan also has been shown to have anticancer properties, inhibiting DNA synthesis and causing the symptoms of cancer to disappear. These effects are likely due to its ability to inhibit bacterial RNA synthesis.
