6H-Indolo[2,3-b]quinoxaline is a cytotoxic compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of skin tumors in mice. It has been shown to be photochemically active and has photophysical properties. The cytotoxic potency of 6H-Indolo[2,3-b]quinoxaline was determined by measuring the concentration needed to kill 50% of cells in vitro. 6H-Indolo[2,3-b]quinoxaline binds to DNA and inhibits the synthesis of proteins needed for cell division. The compound has also been studied for its ability to inhibit herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) infection in human epidermal keratinocytes.
