5-Indolylboronic acid is a boron-containing organic compound that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. It can be used as a cross-coupling agent to form carbon-carbon and carbon-nitrogen bonds. 5-Indolylboronic acid has been shown to inhibit the action of dopamine on the central nervous system, which may contribute to its therapeutic effects for Alzheimer's disease. This drug also binds strongly to metal ions such as palladium, platinum and rhodium. 5-Indolylboronic acid binds to nitrogen atoms in proteins, which may be due to its similarity with vitamin B1 (thiamine).
