Product Information
- 4-Iodo-3,5-Dimethylbenzenamine
- 4-Iodo-3,5-Dimethylaniline
4-Iodo-3,5-dimethylaniline reacts with ammonium to form an ammonium salt. The reaction is conducted in methanol and requires a halogenating agent such as chlorine or bromine. Halogenated aromatic amines can be synthesized by adding the halogenating agent to the 4-iodo-3,5-dimethylaniline. Yields of the reaction are dependent on the reagent used and the desired product. Iodination of 4-iodo-3,5-dimethylaniline yields 3,5-diiodo-4-(benzyltrimethylammonium)aniline. This compound can be selectively iodinated to yield 3,5-diiodo-4-(quaternary ammonium)aniline using carbonate as a quaternizing agent in dichloromethane or calcium carbonate in carbonate solution. Quaternary ammonium
