L-beta-imidazole lactic acid is a monocarboxylic acid that has been shown to inhibit mutant strains of cancer cells, which are resistant to chemotherapeutic agents. It is an inhibitor of acetylcholine metabolism and has been shown to induce lysis in cultured human leukemic cells. L-beta-imidazole lactic acid has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer patients with a specific mutation. This compound inhibits the growth of wild-type strains of cells and blocks biochemical pathways that lead to cell proliferation.
