Product Information
Iridal is a benzalkonium chloride that is used as an anti-infective agent in eye drops and as a preservative in cosmetics. It is also used to treat bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis, by reducing the inflammation of the bowel. Iridal has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and suppressing the production of inflammatory cytokines. The mechanism of action for Iridal is not well understood but it may be due to its ability to inhibit melanogenesis or its ability to induce eumelanin production. Iridal has been shown to be cytotoxic at high doses, with the most potent effect being on basic fibroblast cells.
