2-Iodo-2-methylpropane is a halogenated hydrocarbon that is used in the synthesis of other chemicals. 2-Iodo-2-methylpropane has been investigated for its use as an agent to combat pandemic influenza, covid-19 and H1N1. It was found that when 2-iodo-2-methylpropane reacts with hydrogen chloride at room temperature, it forms a monochloride. The reaction products are determined by the concentration of reactants. In the presence of excess hydrogen chloride, the reaction product is chloroform. When there is no hydrogen chloride present, reaction products are carbon tetrachloride and iodine. The rate of reaction between 2-iodo-2-methylpropane and hydrogen chloride is dependent on the concentration of each reactant, which can be determined through kinetic studies. This compound absorbs ultraviolet light with wavelengths from 190 nm to 230 nm, making it useful for uv absorption spectrosc
