Product Information
5-Methyl-2-(1-methylethenyl)cyclohexanol is a compound that inhibits ATP sensitive potassium (K+) channels. It was synthesized by reacting phosphotungstic acid with cyclohexene. 5-Methyl-2-(1-methylethenyl)cyclohexanol binds to the cyclohexane ring, which is an important part of the molecule for its activity. The nitro group on this ring is responsible for its pharmacological properties. This compound has been shown to produce pain relief in animal models and inhibit asymmetric synthesis in human osteosarcoma cells. Studies have also found that 5-methyl-2-(1-methylethenyl)cyclohexanol can bind to fatty acids, which may be how it enters the cell membrane and inhibits ATP sensitive K+ channels.
5-Methyl-2-(1-methylethenyl)cyclohexanol also has a stable
