Ipconazole is a prothioconazole fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi by binding to the copper ion in their cells. Ipconazole has been shown to be effective against resistant cultivars of oat and wheat, and also inhibits the production of chitin, which is a major component of fungal cell walls. The drug can be used on many different crops, including vegetables, fruits, sugar cane, and cotton. Ipconazole is absorbed through the plant's leaves and roots. It binds to the ryanodine receptor (RYR) in plant cells and blocks calcium release from intracellular stores. This causes an accumulation of calcium ions within the cytoplasm, leading to cell death. Ipconazole has been shown to inhibit recombinant cells expressing chitin synthase activity. The drug was well-tolerated in rats at doses as high as 500 mg/kg body weight for six weeks;
