Isodeoxycholic acid (IDCA) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used to treat bowel diseases. It has potent anticancer effects and is being studied as a potential treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. IDCA has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in the liver. Isodeoxycholic acid is metabolized by bacteria in the human gut, but does not have any antibacterial activity. This drug has also been shown to reduce hepatic steatosis and fatty acid production in mice models of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
