Iopamidol is a radiocontrast agent that is used in diagnostic imaging to improve the visibility of blood vessels and other structures. Iopamidol is a salt of sodium and iopamidol, which consists of iodine, water, and two types of organic molecules. The organic molecules are either non-ionic surfactants or quaternary ammonium compounds. Iopamidol has been shown to have genotoxic activity in vitro. It also has potential for nephrotoxicity when given intravenously. This drug is excreted by the kidneys with a half-life of about 2 hours. Its pharmacokinetic properties can be modified by changes in body mass index and congestive heart failure.
