4-Isopropylbenzaldehyde is an antibiotic-resistant compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria. It is a glycol ether, which is a type of alkylating agent that inhibits DNA synthesis and protein synthesis by binding to ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). 4-Isopropylbenzaldehyde has been shown to be active against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties, which are likely related to its ability to inhibit the enzyme cyclase. The biochemical properties of 4-isopropylbenzaldehyde have not been extensively studied in vivo.
