Description

Isoflavones are a type of plant-derived phytoestrogen that is found in high concentrations in soybeans. Isoflavones have been shown to inhibit the activity of detoxification enzymes, thereby reducing the amount of toxic substances such as drugs or environmental pollutants that are metabolized by these enzymes. Isoflavones can also reduce the severity and duration of infectious diseases, such as malaria and tuberculosis, through their ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria. Isoflavones have also been shown to possess antiinflammatory activity - they are able to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis through their hydroxyl group which binds to the same site on cyclooxygenase as aspirin (acetate extract). The optimum concentration for isoflavone has been shown to be around 40%.
