Description:

Indigo is a dye that has been used for centuries in the textile industry for its unique blue color. It is now used as a fluorescence probe in diagnosis of long-term toxicity, biochemical properties, and physiological effects. Indigo exhibits hydrogen bonding interactions with nuclear DNA and p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which inhibits the activity of enzymes involved in drug metabolism and leads to pharmacological agent toxicity studies.

Indigo has been shown to have inhibitory properties against rat liver microsomal mixed function oxidases through competitive inhibition. It also has high sensitivity and specificity as an analytical method for determining the presence of drugs in urine.
