Isoquinoline-N-oxide is a quinoline derivative that has nitrogen atoms. This molecule is active in the synthesis of growth factors and has biological properties. It is also used to treat autoimmune diseases and inflammatory diseases. Isoquinoline-N-oxide is synthesized from sodium carbonate and hydrogen gas. The reaction mechanism is through the addition of hydrogen gas to sodium carbonate, which leads to the formation of a hydrochloric acid salt, which reacts with an n-oxide compound to form an intermediate, which then reacts with an amine to form a final product. Isoquinoline-N-oxide has been shown to inhibit NS3 protease in vitro, leading to decreased production of inflammatory cytokines (e.g., tumor necrosis factor).
