N-Isopropylacrylamide is a biocompatible polymer that is used in the preparation of polymers. It is a solid phase microextraction material that is used in sample preparation and purification. N-Isopropylacrylamide has a phase transition temperature of -5°C and can be polymerized to form a polymer. This polymerization process can be done with or without catalysts, which are required for the formation of many other types of polymers. N-Isopropylacrylamide has been shown to have good affinity for human serum and wastewater treatment effluent samples, as well as for chitosan polymer surfaces. The kinetic data show that this polymer possesses high capacity for trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) reactivity, which makes it suitable for use in reaction solutions.
