It is found in the urine of patients with acidemia due to ethylmalonic aciduria, but not in healthy individuals. N-Isovalerylglycine has been shown to be an intermediate compound for the synthesis of acetoacetate and isovalerylglycine from acetyl-CoA. This metabolite can be used as a marker for diagnosing metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, and polycystic ovary syndrome.
