It is a bioconjugate, which means that it can be coupled to an organic molecule to form a new molecule with improved properties. 3-Iodobenzyl alcohol is used in the synthesis of polymers and pharmaceuticals. In addition, 3-iodobenzyl alcohol has been studied as an anticancer drug candidate because it binds to DNA and inhibits DNA synthesis and repair in tumor cells. This compound has also been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates.
