Indigotrisulfonic acid tripotassium salt is a compound that has shown to be beneficial in wastewater treatment. It is a potent inhibitor of bacterial dna and rna synthesis, which can be used as an agent for the removal of proteins from water. Indigotrisulfonic acid tripotassium salt has been found to be more effective in removing proteins than benzalkonium chloride, with less toxicity. This chemical also enhances the activity of membrane transport enzymes and has been shown to have a target cell selectivity. Indigotrisulfonic acid tripotassium salt is used in pharmaceutical dosage as an oxidation product or as an intermediate for the production of medicinal chemicals. In flow systems, it is used for its ability to inhibit enzymatic reactions and enhance enzyme activities.
