Isopropenyloxytrimethylsilane (IPTMS) is a cross-linking agent that can be used in the production of silicon-based materials. It is a liquid that reacts with zirconium, forming an organosilicon compound. This reaction may take up to 24 hours and is catalyzed by hydrochloric acid, trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, or β-unsaturated ketones. IPTMS has been shown to react with zirconium oxide and other metal ions to form an antireflection coating on the surface of glass or optical lenses. It also has many functional groups that allow it to be used in organic reactions such as solid-phase synthesis.
