Isofraxidin is a polyketide natural product that inhibits the growth of cells by binding to DNA. It has shown to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme, polymerase chain. Isofraxidin has been shown to inhibit the production of growth factor-β1 in neuronal cells, leading to their death. Isofraxidin also has biological properties and can bind to a variety of receptors, including toll-like receptors. This drug is used in the treatment of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and leprosy. The mechanism of action is not clear but may be due to its ability to interfere with intracellular Ca2+ levels or inhibit drug interactions with cytochrome P450 enzymes. Isofraxidin was isolated from coumarin derivatives using chromatographic analysis and is a potent anti-inflammatory agent.
