Product Information
Isovalerylshikonin is a natural compound that has been shown to have toxicity studies in animal models. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of colorectal adenocarcinoma cells, which is due to its ability to suppress signal pathways and mitochondrial membrane potential. Isovalerylshikonin also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the DNA and inhibiting transcription and replication. Isovalerylshikonin is metabolized through various metabolic processes, including hydroxylation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Isovalerylshikonin also inhibits the synthesis of p-cresol in liver cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT).
