Isoeugenol is a natural compound that is found in the essential oils of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and bay leaves. It has been shown to have biological properties and optimum concentration for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of DNA. Isoeugenol was also shown to bind to DNA in vitro assays. Isoeugenol has not been extensively studied for its toxicity or enzyme activities. However, it does react with p-hydroxybenzoic acid in aqueous solution to form p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and benzoic acid. The clinical pathology of isoeugenol is unknown at this time.
