It is used in the treatment of infections caused by coliform bacteria and as a gastrointestinal tract disinfectant for diarrhoea. 7-Iodoquinoline has been shown to be effective against enterocolitis and other gastrointestinal disorders, although it may cause toxic effects on the liver.
