2-Iodo-1,1-Difluoroethane is a bioactive nonpolar chemical that is synthesized from fatty acids. It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against bacteria and fungi. 2-Iodo-1,1-difluoroethane is often used as the solvent in the synthesis of high performance ionic liquids. It has also been modified by using fluoride to form a monomer with antimicrobial properties. 2-Iodo-1,1-difluoroethane can be modified by adding sugar esters to alter its physicochemical properties and increase its antimicrobial activity.
