This reaction occurs in supercritical carbon dioxide at high pressures (200 bar). The chlorine atom introduced in this reaction is removed by zinc powder to yield a functional group. 3-Iodopentafluoropropene-1 can also react with hydrocarbon ligands to form a variety of products. 3-Iodopentafluoropropene-1 can be reacted with carbon tetrachloride to yield chlorofluorocarbons, which are widely used as propellants or refrigerants.
