Jaconine is a chemical compound that is an n-oxide of aconite roots. It has been shown to have inhibitory effects on cancer cells and infectious diseases. Jaconine inhibits the growth of various bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Jaconine also had an inhibitory effect on the development of skin cancer in tissue culture. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to produce reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen chloride and specific antibodies against amines. This compound has been shown to have a protective effect on plants against diseases caused by fungi and other pathogens.
