Jatrorrhizine is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-hyperglycemic effects in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. It has been reported to have a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) rate constant of 3.2 × 10 M/s, which is higher than that of berberine (2.0 × 10 M/s). Jatrorrhizine has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and can be used as a potential cancer chemotherapeutic agent. Jatrorrhizine binds to DNA and RNA, thereby inhibiting transcription and translation. The hypoglycemic effect of jatrorrhizine may be due to its ability to inhibit the expression of genes encoding for enzymes involved in glucose metabolism, such as insulin, glucokinase, and hexokinase.
