Product Information
Kartogenin is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan that is associated with cartilage tissue. It has been shown to be up-regulated in response to growth factors, including growth factor-β1. Kartogenin may also have a role in the regulation of gene transcription and the development of inflammatory processes. The molecule has been shown to inhibit proinflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-1β, IL-6) and stimulate production of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. Cartilage tissue from patients with osteoarthritis has significantly lower levels of kartogenin than healthy tissues, which may account for the increased levels of inflammation in these patients.
