Linalool oxide is a terpene that is found in the essential oils of many plants. It has been shown to have antioxidant and antiviral properties. Linalool oxide is also used as a flavoring agent in some foods and beverages. The oxidation of linalool oxide by oxygen nucleophiles produces the corresponding peroxides, which are used as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis and a catalyst for the production of glycol ethers. Linalool oxide can be synthesized from acetate extract obtained from honeybush or fatty acid obtained from plant science through methyl transferase-mediated reaction with oxygen nucleophiles. It can also be produced from hydrogen peroxide or a solid phase microextraction (SPME) technique with an oxidation catalyst, such as palladium on carbon, or a detergent composition with hydrogen peroxide.
