H-D-Leu-Tyr-OH is a biochemically reactive compound that can undergo a number of reactions with other substrates. It is an amide that is converted to the tripeptides, H-D-leu-tyr and H-D-Phe-Lys, by hydrolysis in the liver. It is also converted to the condensation products, H-D-leu and H2NCH2COOH, by hydrochloric acid or metal ions. The formation rate of this compound depends on its concentration. The rate of reaction increases with increased substrate concentrations. This compound has an acidic pH and binds to a bidentate ligand, histidine.
