Description:Lithium carbonate is a salt that contains lithium and carbonate ions. It is used as a mood stabilizer, primarily to treat bipolar disorder. Lithium carbonate is available in three different concentrations: lithium carbonate 5% (Li2CO3), lithium carbonate 10% (Li2CO3), and lithium carbonate 15% (Li2CO3). The optimum concentration of lithium carbonate for the treatment of bipolar disorder is 10%. Lithium has been shown to increase the activity index in combination therapy groups with either mianserin hydrochloride or carbamazepine. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy has also been used to measure the effect of lithium on human body mass index (BMI).
