Linalool is a naturally occurring monoterpene alcohol found in many plants, including lavender, rosewood, and laurel. It is used in perfumery as a scent agent. Linalool has been shown to interact with the sodium salts of linalool to produce an electrochemical response that can be measured using impedance spectroscopy. Its physiological effects have been studied in an in vitro model system using rat liver mitochondria and its interaction with x-ray diffraction data. Linalool has also been shown to affect enzyme activities such as hydroxylase, nitroreductase, and cytochrome P450 reductase. These activities may be due to the molecule's ability to bind reversibly to proteins or protein groups through hydrophobic interactions.
